Mowhawks, Hitchcock, and old rocks

Dydh da!

That means ‘hello’ in Cornish. This past weekend, I got to go to Cornwall with Tom to visit his family.

We went on a beautiful hike and enjoyed the vibrant English countryside.

We also went to Trethevy Quoit, which is a cool ancient rock formation. It looks like it could topple over at any moment, but it has been standing since 3,000 B.C.

The valley used to be a huge tin mining village. Here’s a sweet deserted mine.

It’s hard to tell from the picture, but someone put stones in three circles, Stonehenge-style over 4,000 years ago. It’s called The Hurlers.

Then we had to visit the famed Jamaica Inn of Daphne Du Maurier. Her book was made into a movie by Hitchcock. She’s also the author responsible for Hitchcock’s “The Birds.”

Tom having a singing in the rain moment!

Rumor is the place is haunted. However, that doesn’t stop people from spending a night in the inn.

I loved my time in Cornwall.

Olly Murs

Tom and I got to see Olly Murs live at Wembley Arena for Valentine’s Day. We had a perfect view from the eighth row!

He’s a talented singer and performer. If you haven’t fallen in love with his music yet, you really must do yourself a favor and listen to it.

The concert was amazing, but the best part was being there with Tom (awww, precious.) Ok enough blog sappiness...

Photo time

I’ve also been hard at work getting stories together for a class website (yes, I really do go to school). Our site tells the story of London through the five senses. For my first sense, I chose taste at Camden Market.

While the website is still a work in progress, feel free to check it out here.

Feedback is always appreciated. :)
While roaming London, you tend to see some interesting characters.

He must spend a fortune in hair gel. And Elmer's glue.

                     Speaking of interesting characters…

It's a tough economy, and Minnie's got to make a living somehow.

Well, here’s a sneak peak of my next sense; sound. The full slideshow should be on the website by the end of the week.

The next few weeks are going to be crazy, so I probably won’t update the blog. But never fear! I officially have my plane ticket booked for my America visit in April. Next stop, the Grand Canyon.

With love,
Wendy

Snowing, snogging, and other favorite pasttimes

Well hello!

This past week has been one of forced relaxation after I managed to get tonsillitis. I have literally done nothing but sleep and watch my old favorite chick flicks (BBC Pride and Prejudice? I think yes). I’ve also been gargling salt water (nasty).

It’s not all bad, though. My current pathetic condition means I have the chance to catalog my latest adventures! So here goes:

I forced Tom take me to Tower Bridge again because I love it. Every little girl dreams of being a princess and living in a castle. I think my dream castle would have this bridge out front. It doesn’t matter that I’m turning 23 this year; I’m still secretly a princess at heart :)

Later on, Tom and I went and had a snog. The frozen yogurt kind! I got the mandarin flavor, which was quite tasty.

I was definitely a fan of the pink interior!

We got the super snog deal that comes with three toppings and an ultra-cool snogging spoon. When you walk in, they have a sign that says, “Fancy a snog?” I can’t think of a sentence that's more British than that!

Blackberries, strawberries, and pomegranate. Best snog ever :)

The next day I had the opportunity to go to Tottenham, where the riots started last August. A group from my church went to help clear out an allotment that was full of weeds. I had never heard of allotments before, but they are plots of land for people who want to grow their own food and don’t have their own gardens.

This one was started by mothers in the area who wanted to see their community come together and unite. It was touching to see how grateful they were.

I love my girls Dee and Caroline! Even if Caroline would throw dirt on people then make it look like it was my fault. We had a good laugh regardless. :)

I also got to visit the London, England Temple. It’s amazing!

The beautiful structure is the work of my church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was so nice to go and have a break from my daily hectic schedule. I truly feel at peace there. If you want to know more about temples and their purpose, check this out.

Other than that I’ve just been chilling at home, quite literally. IT SNOWED! Maybe some of you have the same mindset I did before I came. London in the wintertime conjures up images of Charles Dickens-esque constant snowfall, right? Wrong. It actually only snows maybe once a year.

It finally feels like winter! I’m so tempted to put on the Christmas music again. Some of my friends have never seen snow and are screaming while running around and taking pictures. Love it! I’m still not well enough to go outside, so I’ll let them enjoy it for me.

This is the lovely view from my window.

Things are good in the UK. Even though my heart longs for summer, I’m learning to enjoy each season regardless. That way, I’m always excited, regardless of the weather!

Oh yeah, next Saturday Tom and I are seeing Olly Murs live at Wembley Arena!!! If you haven’t heard his music before, check it out. It's good stuff.

All my love,
Wendy
